MOTEL VOID: To be honest, I couldnât find much information about you online – could you tell us a bit about yourself? For example, what kind of projects were you involved in before starting Laurier?
LAURIER: Yeah I canât imagine there would be. I was in a band in high school, I eventually took a step back from that and began doing things myself. I think that was like 2019, so since then Iâve been recording music by myself. I had a handful of singles before these two but theyâve since been scrubbed from the internet. I hope.
MOTEL VOID: This year youâve released two singles – are you planning to put out a full album?
LAURIER: Yes, sometime early next year hopefully. Weâll see.
MOTEL VOID: Could you share a bit about how your songs come to life? Do you record everything yourself? And what DAW do you use?
LAURIER: I usually remember a song’s melody or lyrics or something, and then I go crazy trying to figure out what it is. Sometimes it doesnât exist, so itâs mine, usually. Itâs all me besides some of the mixing and mastering on the singles. I use Logic.
MOTEL VOID: Youâre from Arkansas, which isnât exactly known to me as an indie music hotspot – most projects I come across tend to come from New York or California. Whatâs the music scene like in Arkansas? Do you have any favorite venues or local bands? And what is it like for you to be part of the scene there?
LAURIER: It certainly is not lmao. Thereâs a very sparse âindieâ music scene in my area of Arkansas, let alone the rest of the state. There are a few good bands like The Phlegms and Brother Moses, (who moved to New York) but besides that if thereâs a scene Iâm certainly not in the know. There are a few people making music around here that have gotten big on TikTok, though they certainly are not contributing to any local scenes.
