BEST NEW TRACKS: TORY SILVER, GROUP THERAPY, VERY BUSY PEOPLE

Three new tracks we recommend – this time all revolving around genres such as slacker rock, slowcore, and psychedelia.

TORY SILVER – YOUR GOD

When a track is produced by Jay Som, it immediately grabs your attention – just like the new single Your God by Tory Silver. Beyond its wonderfully laid-back slacker atmosphere, it also stands out thanks to a beautifully crafted retro video – I especially loved the shot of the rotating television. In fact, everything surrounding this single feels thoughtful, cohesive, and genuinely charming. The song juxtaposes complex lyrical themes with carefree, playful sounds – and the contrast works perfectly.

GROUP THERAPY – LITTLE WARNING

Group Therapy are an alternative indie / emo / shoegaze / dream pop–adjacent band from Toronto. Speaking about their new single little warning, they cited the legendary American Football as an influence. Honestly, though, I didn’t hear that reference all that strongly – perhaps in the intricate guitar work, but overall I sense more of a natural rawness in Group Therapy’s sound, drawing closer to the slightly grimier strain of ’90s slowcore. Names like Duster come to mind. Add a hazy, expressive vocal delivery, and you’ve got a genuinely pleasant surprise!

VERY BUSY PEOPLE – SURF NOW!

Very Busy People are a band formed in Austin, TX in 2017. Since then, the indie collective has continually evolved, blending elements of jazz, psychedelia, dance, and folk into their sound.

Their new track Surf Now! immediately draws you in with a laid-back, slacker-psychedelic atmosphere that keeps you guessing – you’re never quite sure where it’s about to turn (or whether it will turn at all). Then, about forty-five seconds in, a striking riff kicks in and you think: this is it. Soon after, that unmistakable surf mood arrives, instantly putting a smile on your face. And the real highlight? The energetic, almost surprisingly powerful vocals. A true feel-good kind of song.
