SUNDAY,JUNE – WHAT IF I TRIED?

Sunday,June are a Spanish-Swiss band led by Mario Peiró (guitar and lead vocals), alongside Audrey Croisier (guitar and vocals), Thomas Abbet (drums), Vincent Breza (bass), and Antoine Chapel (keyboards and vocals). They describe their sound as “solar psych” – a cinematic and nostalgic blend of psychedelic rock, dream pop, shoegaze and indie rock.

They released their debut album Sun Glitter and Other Reflections in 2025 and have toured across Europe, including performances at Montreux Jazz Festival, Festival Antigel and Supersonic in Paris, as well as, most recently, Sicily’s Ypsigrock Festival. Their second album, Cinema, is due out on November 6, 2026, via Irascible Records and Spinda Records.

What If I Tried? has a pleasant Tame Impala vibe, and although this kind of music isn’t usually my thing, something about Sunday,June makes it incredibly enjoyable for me. I think what I particularly like is that it doesn’t feel overly bombastic, but rather restrained and understated, with a lovely melancholic quality. There are also plenty of great ideas throughout the track and a really nice organic production.

FLEETING COLOURS – AUTUMN

Fleeting Colours are a shoegaze band from Montreal, and Autumn is the first single from their debut EP, Crystal. This is exactly the kind of shoegaze I have a huge soft spot for. The vocal reminds me of the singer from Daughter, while the overall sound carries hints of trip-hop and dream pop. The melody weaving its way through the track feels incredibly ethereal, yet at the same time genuinely memorable and almost crystal-clear in its beauty. Gorgeous!

DEATH DRIVE – ACTUAL MALICE

Death Drive are a Brooklyn-based samplegaze band blending noise rock, indietronica and shoegaze. Actual Malice is a single featuring guest vocalist O Slow, and it is a genuinely fascinating listen. I don’t think I’ve heard anything quite like this before. It could easily work as a more straightforward shoegaze track, but instead the band weaves all kinds of samples into the arrangement. Although it initially feels somewhat chaotic, everything somehow fits together remarkably well. There is a strong cinematic quality to the whole thing, and I could immediately imagine listening to this while driving through a big city at night. That’s exactly the kind of atmosphere I love in music.
